This pashmina fiber shawl which comes from Leh in Ladakh is of the finest quality and its diamond point weaving only enhances its royal character. This shawl is the perfect thickness for the meditator and it offers us a unique combination of great warmth combined with unequaled lightness. It is so thin that it can also easily be worn as an accessory to enhance our outfits for all occasions.

We suggest that you protect your pashmina from unnecessary friction by keeping it in a small pouch before putting it in your bag. Nowadays, the word "pashmina" has become a generic name for a shawl. This is a misrepresentation, and several shawls made of synthetic as well as natural fibers are often advertised as "pashmina".

Pashmina is the finest fiber there is *. This wonder comes from the "Changthangi" goat which lives in the high Himalayan mountains in Ladakh. The goats of this region produce the most beautiful pashmina in the world.

These goats are raised by semi-nomadic people who take care of them and who have to move around to allow the herd to forage. They collect pashmina every spring and each goat gives about 3 to 8 ounces of fiber. The fibers of this pashmina are only 10 to 14 microns. A micron is 7 to 8 times finer than human hair.

This royal fiber is luxuriously soft, light as a feather and surprisingly warm for its weight.

* The fiber of Shahtoosh which comes from the Tibetan antelope (Charu) is even finer than the pashmina. However, in order for the fiber to be collected, the life of the animal must be sacrificed. Consequently, this antelope has become an endangered species and it is absolutely forbidden to collect its fibers.

Care and Maintenance

If the process described below does not suit you, you can certainly send the shawl for DRY CLEANING.

HOW TO WASH YOUR SHAWL SAFELY:

Dissolve a little quantity of mild detergent - like gentle shampoo or woolen soap - with cold or lukewarm water (at 30 °C /86 °F maximum)

Submerge the shawl in the water and move it gently for a few minutes. Do not use fabric softener and rinse the shawl very well by running cool water through it to remove the soap.

You can then take out extra water by applying gentle pressure.

NEVER RING, NEVER TWIST.

Remove the excess water by rolling the shawl in a clean towel.

Preferably lay it flat. If not possible, fold it once or twice to prevent the fibres to be stretched too much and hang it on the clothes line in avoiding direct sun or any proximity to heat sources.

Once dry, if available, the shawl can be steamed which will fluff the fibres. Otherwise, it can be ironed with a warm iron.
